LOW-VOLTAGE POWER
CABLES
WITH PVC INSULATED ALUMINIUM CONDUCTOR |
| Aluminium is technically an approved material
as an alternative to copper. The attractive price advantage of aluminium and therefore,
its substantial utilisation in electric power industry as conductor or power cable. The
aluminium cable remained cheaper by more than 35 % of its equivalent copper size during
many years. However, the connectors which are manufactured according international
standards, are required for use with aluminium conductors.
Low voltage (0,6/1 kV) 3 1/2 core power cables with PVC insulated aluminium conductors
power cables has been manufactured by TÜRKKABLO A.O. according Turkish Standard TS-212
(VDE 0271), since 1974, by the registered name ALVİNAL® .
ALVİNAL cables are all standards types, and their performance has been proved in
operation : i.e. airport electrification system, industrial areas, hotels, cities
low voltage distribution nets, power stations etc. in Turkey. |

| Power cables according to other
standards, regulations or specifications will be manufactured on the request of our
customers. TÜRKKABLO A.O. manufacture three different types ALVİNAL cables in 16
...240 mm2 cross sectional area.
1- ALVİNAL-D (YAVV - NAYY)
ALVİNAL-D, 3 1/2 cores low-voltage power cable, with PVC insulated
aluminium conductors and PVC sheathed, for indoor and outdoor heavy duty installations, in
ducts or conduits, power stations, industrial areas, underground power distribution nets
in different soil (dry, moist, wet, sand, gray, etc.) conditions where the mechanical
factors to damage insulation has been prevented.
2- ALVİNAL-K (YAVMV-NAYCY)
ALVİNAL-K, 3 cores low-voltage power cable, with concentric neutral copper
conductor and PVC insulated aluminium phase conductors and PVC sheathed, for indoor and
outdoor heavy duty installations, in ducts or conduits, power stations, industrial areas,
underground power distribution nets, in different soil (dry, moist, wet, sand, gray, etc.)
conditions. The concentric copper conductor prevent cable against external electrical and
mechanical effects.
3- ALVİNAL-Z (YAVŞV - NAYFGbY)
ALVİNAL-Z, 3 1/2 cores low voltage steel armoured power cable with PVC
insulated aluminium phase conductors and PVC sheathed, for indoor and outdoor severe
installations and operating conditions., in ducts or conduits, power stations, industrial
areas, underground power distribution nets in different soil (dry, moist, wet, sand, gray,
etc.), river and sea conditions.

INSTALLATION and JOINTING SYSTEM
The basic installation technique for aluminium and copper
conductors is the same:
i.e. pulling conductors in ducts, conduits or trays, stripping insulation and using
joint boxes and joint compounds.
We prefer to use 3M medium (MDT) and thick (HDT) wall heat-shrinkable sleeves with a
hot- melt adhesive to ensure a perfect sealing of cable splices, connections and through
joints..
Heat Shrink Tubing
MDT sleeves with a hot-melt adhesive for to ensure perfect sealing of cores and
connectors, HDT sleeves with hot-melt adhesive to meet environmental sealing and to ensure
the entrance of moisture in splices and through joints, ideally suited for underground and
direct buried installations.
The specially formulated compound of HDT sleeves is self extinguishing, corrosion
resistant and resistant to most acids, alkalis and solvents.
Connectors
For connecting aluminium conductors screw or compression type, tin-plated or blank
prefilled connectors are used.
Jointing
A splice kit includes internal and external shrinkable tubes, connectors, and copper
shielded socket, constant force springs (for armour and coaxial cables) and installation
drawing.
Cable Lugs
To connect cable cores to diverse terminals, mainly specially design aluminium compression
, tin-plated or blank pre-filled with compression compounds type of cable lugs are used.
In dry location Tin-plated aluminium cable lugs can be connected to copper without any
corrosion problem. Damp locations need special attention and bimetallic cable lugs. Clean the conductor or cable ends with a wire brush
to remove dirt and oxidation and use joint compound (SARI MACUN) to prevent any
re-oxidisation.
